Channel Crossing Safety Boat

channel crossing safety boats

We operate Channel Crossing Safety Boats to escort unusual trips across the English Channel by your chosen means. We are based in Rye Harbour only 6 miles from the best crossing route from Dungeness in Sussex to Wimereux in France.  The distance between France and the UK at this point is only 22 Nautical miles.   Some recent channel crossings using our safety boat escorting service include:

  • Kitesurfing escorted across 3 times already in 2011
  • Windsurfing 1 in 2012
  • Kayak – 4 crossings escorted this year so far. Take a Look at our Kayak the English Channel Page

Crossing window

It is best to allow a two or three week window in which to allow for a good chance of getting the right weather conditions for the trip. The best wind directions are SW or NE force 3-5 maximum as having to tack too much upwind is too tiring and running down wind is also very tiring.

Crew

We have experienced crews available to help your crossing run as smoothly as possible. These trips are quite weather dependant please either contact us or call on 01424 442 729 to discuss your requirements and we will help plan your crossing.

Crossing Route

The best route can be seen on the map below. We don’t tend to escort crossings from Folkestone or Dover as there are ferries crossing the shipping lanes which makes for very busy times. To see how busy the shipping lanes are have a look at the Ship Tracker map. Have a look at our price list to see how much your trip will cost.
